Predict the marriage age of a native

A Nadi Method
Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus
In nadi astrology, Saturn is considered as presiding over the portfolio of Karma or duty as Karma Karaka.
Saturn(significator) decides the fate and duties of the individuals born in this world depending on Saturn's interaction with other karaka planets. In performing such duties presided over and decided by Saturn the presiding deity, there will help and cooperation of other planets to Saturn whether this cooperation will prove beneficial or harmful to the native depends upon the planetary configurations I the native's birth chart and during transits. Jupiter is the other main major planet representing the life force or Jeeva whose interaction with the event karaka planet is important for fructification of the event. Rahu and Ketu are the other major planets generally obstructing the event karaka planet. Mars is taken as the karaka planet for marriage event or for the marital knot . Marital knot as distinctly different from the concept of marital bliss or wretchedness of marital life. How a marriage event manifests has no bearing on how life develops in the context of the marital aspect. Contributory factors culminating in the marriage event cease to have any further play or contribution thereafter. Under the nadi method, Venus is depicted as karaka for marital life which can develop into marital bliss or crucible for suffering.

In nadi astrology, transits of Saturn and Jupiter are mainly considered connecting the karaka planet of an event in the birth chart for timing the event. Since Mars is the karaka planet for marriage event, the interaction of Saturn and Jupiter with mars during their transit becomes opportune for the marriage event to occur. The 7th sign depicts partner of the native, the one with whom the marital knot is tied and the transits of Saturn and Jupiter with the 7th sign from Mars also becomes opportune. Jupiter and Saturn interact with natal Mars in birth chart when they transit over these signs or aspect these signs. Jupiter transits each sign for about an year and Saturn transits each sign for about 2 1/2 years. It can be seen that in one's life span, Jupiter and Saturn would be interacting with the sensitive point of marital knot periodically at regular cyclic transits. While it is prerequisite that Saturn and Jupiter in their transit interact with mars natal position to bring about marriage event, it does not follow that every time Jupiter and Saturn interact with marital knot sensitive point it would be necessarily result in the marriage event. The task, therefore, is to elect the particular transit of Saturn and Jupiter out of the series of transits by process of eliminating unproductive transits. The step in this direction is to check whether the karaka for marriage event mars comes under situations to cause delay or obstruction. Rahu's interaction with Mars can cause impediments or delay in marriage. Symbolically , Mars is considered as being swallowed by Rahu.

Change of Sign
In nadi astrology, whenever a planet is retrograde in a sign, it is considered to be in the previous sign also. When Saturn is in the beginning of a sign upto about 3 degrees and Jupiter up to about 1 degree, they are taken to be in the previous sign. When two planets in parivartana (exchange of signs) they are taken to be in their own signs.

In nadi astrology, the transit of major planets is also considered in the navamsa chart in the fructification of the event. Since navamsa chart is supposed to represent marriage aspect, the transit of Saturn and Jupiter over the navemsa lagna and navamsa lagna lord is considered as additional point for timing of marriage.

The following are the main rules for arriving at probable marriage age:

Jupiter during transit conjoins or aspects natal Mars or 7th sign from natal Mars.
Saturn during transit conjoins or aspects natal Mars or 7th sign from natal Mars.
Jupiter during transit conjoins or aspects navamsa lagna or navamsa lagna lord.
Saturn during transit conjoins or aspects navamsa lagna or navamsa lagna lord.

The following additional points may also be noted:

When Jupiter, Saturn or Mars is retrograde in birth chart in a particular sign, they are to be considered to be in the previous sign also and age is to be counted from there.
When Jupiter is in about 1 degree and Saturn is about 3 degrees in the beginning of a sign, they are to be considered to be in the previous sign also as per the Vakya Siddhanta followed by nadi astrology and age is to be counted from there.
When Rahu is with Mars or next sign to Mars, the 4th sign from mars would be the sensitive point for interaction with transits of Jupiter, Saturn , Rahu.
When Rahu is in opposite sign to mars, the 4th sign from there, that is,. the 10th sign form natal Mars is to be considered as the sensitive point.
When Mars is in parivartana ( exchange of signs) with another planet, Mars is to be considered to be in own sign acting as the sensitive point.
When Mars is retrograde with Rahu, first Mars is to be place in the previous sign and the 4th sign from there is to be considered as the sensitive point.

Thumb Rule for Counting Age
Counting of age is to be started from natal Jupiter sign at the rate for one year per sign in clockwise direction, from natal Saturn sign at the rate of 2 1/2 years per sign in clockwise direction and from natal Rahu sign at the rate of 1 1/2 years per sign in anti-clockwise direction. This means that Jupiter transit on the natal Jupiter sign is considered as completion of one year age and accordingly Jupiter transit on the next sign is taken as completion of two years and so on. Similarly Saturn on natal Saturn sign is considered as completion of 2 1/2 years and on the next sign completion of 5 years and so on. Rahu transit on natal Rahu is taken as completion of 1 1/2 years and on the previous sign since Rahu moves anti-clockwise completion of 3 years and so on. By this thumb rule, it can be quickly checked in which signs Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu would be during transit for completed years. As already stated earlier, the transit positions of Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu can be noted from 21 years age onward to check their interaction with natal Mars, navamsa lagna and navamsa lagna lord to eliminate the unproductive ages for marriage due to Rahu interaction with Mars.

Astrology and Marriage Issues

By:- Shubha Rangaswamy

This article will give a bird's eye view of various aspects of marriage that Astrology can cover to ensure harmony and happiness in marriage. Certain simple combinations that cover nine aspects of marriage issues are indicated below.

1.    Timing of marriage

1.    Saturn, during transit, should create a relation with 7th house or 7th lord from Lagna, Moon or 'kalatra' significator Venus (for men) and Jupiter (for women).

2.    Examine whether Jupiter also creates a relation by way of conjunction or aspect. Check also, if Jupiter during transit creates relation with 7th house or 7th lord from Moon or significator Venus (and Jupiter) or lords of their stars

2.     Delay in marriage

1.    When Sun, Rahu and Saturn aspect the 7th lord or occupy the 7th house from Ascendant/Moon it indicates considerable delay.

2.    When Venus, Moon and Saturn are in 7th house marriage can be delayed upto the age of 30 to 35 years

3.     Spouse

1.    Marriage to a person in far off place is indicated when Moon is in 7th house and malefics occupy 5th and 9th houses from Moon marriage.

2.    Early marriage to a partner living nearby can be predicted when Venus occupies 7th house and aspects its own dispositor.

3.    If the Sun and Venus are in 5th, 7th or 9th house, there can be weakness to the limbs of the spouse.

4.     Matching of horoscopes

1.    Matching of Guna/Kuta can be done considering the birth star of boy and girl.

1.    If the maximum number of gunas is 36 and a minimum 18, the match is approved as Guna/Kuta compatible.

2.    A happy married life is indicated if

1.    The Sun of the girl's chart and the Moon of the boy's chart are 120 deg apart

2.    The Sun of the girl and Moon of the boy interchange their houses and

3.    The Sun of the girl and Moon of the male aspect each other.

3.    The match is approved if Samasaptama is present

1.    Ascendant/Moon/Navamsa of the girl is 7th to the Ascendant of the boy.

4.    The running Dasa of the boy and the girl should be mutually friendly

5.    There should be no Dasa Sandhi at the time of marriage.

5.     Love Marriage

1.    Successful,

1.    If the 5th house and 5th lord , 7th lord , Venus and Jupiter in both the charts are strong.

2.    If 7th lord , 5th lord and Venus are strong with benefic aspect/s and related to each other

2.    Unsuccessful

1.    If Venus is in 7th in the natal chart and Navamsa.

2.    If Venus , Mars and Saturn in 7th or Saturn in 2nd house.

6.     Marital Separation/Discord/Divorce

1.    Separation is indicated if Mars and Saturn relate to the 7th lord or Venus.

2.    Discord is indicated

1.    if Mars, Saturn and Venus are together in 8th house.

2.    If Mars and Saturn are in ascendant

3.    If Venus is in an angle opposite Mars and Jupiter, divorce is indicated

7.     Second Marriage if

1.    Moon and Venus join together and are strong.

2.    7th lord's Navamsa is debilitated, combust or in enemy's house.

3.    Venus in 2,5,8,11 sign with Ketu or aspect of Ketu

4.    Moon and Saturn in 7th house.

8.     No Marriage if

1.    Ascendant lord and 7th lord are in 2/12 position.

2.    Ascendant lord and 7th lord in 6/8 position.

3.    7th lord and Sun in 1, 4 ,7 and 10 signs

Marriage is a sacred institution that imposes equal moral, social and spiritual responsibility to husband and wife. The institution of a hindu marriage includes the Saptapadi or the taking of seven steps by the bridegroom and the bride jointly before the sacred fire. The marriage becomes complete and binding when the seventh step is taken. The bride and the groom vow that they would be true and loyal to each other and would remain companions and friends for a lifetime.

Here are some general combinations in navamsa regarding married life.

1) Navamsa lagna aspected by a benefic can give a happy married life.

2) Navamsa lagna lord aspecting navamsa is a good combination for a peaceful married life.

3) If navamsa lagna and navamsa lagna lord are vargothama then, ur spouse will be very adaptable.

4) It is better to have a navamsa lagna with a subhakartari yoga which will help u to tide through any difficulty.

5) Benefics in the 5th or 9th to navamsa lagna indicates that u r handsome.

6) If navamsa lagna happens to be 9th or 12th to the janma lagna, physical needs may be very high.

7) If navamsa lagna is associated with many malefics, there could be extra-martial relationships.

If the lord of 3 or 6 or 7 or 10 is posited in the 7th to navamsa lagna ur spouse may have a career in law.

9) venus in the 7th to navamsa lagna indicates disharmony in marriage.

10) If the lord of 7th in rasi is in 6 or 8 or 12 to navamsa lagna, married life may not be pleasant.

11) If the lagna lord or the 7th lord are associated with incendiary planets, then there could be separation.

12) Conjunction of Moon and venus and if one of them is debilitated, there will be no happiness from marriage.

13) If the 5th from the navamsa lagna is occupied by Jupiter and venus, u could get ravishing beauty as ur wife.

14) If the 7th happens to be the house of saturn and if malefic are in it, the spouse could look old or it could be a second marriage.

15) If venus is in the amsa of Mars or in the house of saturn without any benefic aspect, there could be sexual perversions.

16) If venus is in the navamsa of Moon, the whole married life will be full of problems.

17) If the 7th lord conjuct with the 6th lord and also venus, there will be separation or divorce.

These are general principles and should not be taken verbatim. Pls also consider the aspect and conjunction of other planets before coming to a conclusion.

Navamsa - One-ninth division of a sign. Planetary position in these divisions significantly affect the disposition of planets in the natal chart. Each of these divisions is ruled by a planet which need not be identical with the planet owning the sign. If a planet occupies the same sign in the natal and the Navamsa charts, it attains great benefic power and is known as Vargottama.

The Importance of Navasma/ Navamsha.

Another concept is the horoscope of “Navasma”, which is a parallel chart to the birth horoscope. The Navasma shares about ¼ power of the chart. It is famous saying “If the Birth horoscope is the tree, then the Navasma is the fruit”. How useful is the tree if it bears out only rotten fruit. So therefore along with the A healthy chart it is very important to have an equally good navasma. Hindu astrology has dual purpose for the Navamsa, first to check the strength of the birth chart, second for marriage compatibility. The 7th house i.e. the house of marriage is checked in navasma for accurate prediction about a native’s spouse.

Here comes the fun part, simple and easy. The concept of Vargottam is the most interesting to me, Viggottam means “the best division”. In the Birth chart and the Navamsa a garh is placed in the same rashi it becomes Virgottam, there the star add extra power to the birth chart and amplifies favorable results. For instance : In my birth chart Sun in placed in the mercury’s house ( Gemini) # 3 and similarly in navamsa chart my sun is positioned in Gemini, which makes is it a Virgottam planet.

Here is a very interesting article on the importance of Navamsha. Navamsa is also known as “Navamsha”: Article by: Joni Patry

What leads me to write on the navamsha is the Presidential election. I predicted that President George W. Bush would be elected both terms based on his navamsha. The last election I had undue strife concerning this prediction. I received hate mail and even bets from other astrologers about this prediction. I would say about 75 percent of astrologers predicted that John Kerry would be elected. It really dismayed me when Indian astrologers I had never heard of with self-appointed titles of royalty staunchly predicted John Kerry. I stood by my word because I knew no Indian astrologers could be that affluent as they had claimed without any reference to the navamsha.

By far the most important divisional chart is the navamsha chart, which reveals the spiritual essence and deeper truth of an individual. The real clues to the outcome of a person’s life are in the navamsha. The maha dasha ruler and bhukti ruler must always be reviewed in the navamsha, for it will reveal information as to the outcome and indicate the inner quality of the cycles.

The navamsha chart (D-9) divides the 30-degree sign into nine parts of 3.20 degrees each. This is the most important divisional chart of all, and Vedic XE "Vedic" astrologers automatically compare this chart to the rashi to determine the results of a person’s life.

The navamsha chart is called the fruit of the tree. It reveals the future outcome of a person’s life, promising to manifest the potential in the rashi chart. We seem to become the navamsha chart as we grow older. These are the issues of the ninth house, the house of luck, fortune and spiritual pursuits. If a planet is in the same sign in both the rashi and the navamsha. it is vargottama, meaning it gains strength and is a more powerful planet in the rashi. Some also refer to the navamsha as the spouse who is the mirror of yourself.

To calculate the navamsha of a planet, the first 3.20 degrees begin with the first quality (cardinal, fixed, mutable) of the element the planet is in, then the following divisions continue with the zodiac signs in order regardless of quality or element. For example, if Venus is 10 degrees of Scorpio XE "Scorpio" in the rashi, the first navamsha will be Cancer XE "Cancer" (the cardinal sign of the same element), the second navamsha will be Leo XE "Leo" , the third Virgo XE "Virgo" , the fourth Libra XE "Libra" , the fifth Scorpio, the sixth Sagittarius XE "Sagittarius" , the seventh Capricorn XE "Capricorn" , the eighth Aquarius XE "Aquarius" , and the ninth navamsha is Pisces XE "Pisces" . Because Venus was in the fourth division (by nine) of its rashi sign, Venus falls in the fourth navamsha of Libra here.

"Timing of Marriage & Relationship"

Diverse applications of astrology include the aspect of timing of Marriage & Relationship. While the “Timing of Marriage & Relationship” is done with the help of the sub-periods and the triple transit triggering influence of planets in the natal chart, the natal promise is ascertained from the birth chart.

The analysis on this website is done with the help of Systems'Approach for Interpreting Horoscopes (SA) propounded by Author and Astrologer,
V. K. HYPERLINK ""Choudhry. SA is a set of principles which gives fast, nearly accurate and clear results. SA takes you out of the confusions, contradictions and inconsistencies which have crept in the classical literature over the period of time before the advent of the printing technology.

The basis of Vedic Astrology is the Karma theory based on the premise that the planetary influences in the natal chart are the results of one’s deeds of past lives. The ascendant establishes the functional nature of planets. The Moon sets the clock in motion. The type of karma, one is destined to, is deciphered from the nature of influences on the tenth house, lord of the tenth house, the Sun and Jupiter.

Birth chart analysis, as per Systems’ Approach, depend upon the following factors:

V. K. Choudhry
Author & Astrologer

The functional nature of planets is the key analytical factor in the horoscope analysis. Besides Rahu and Ketu, the planets, whose mooltrikona signs are in malefic houses (sixth, eighth and twelfth) with reference to the ascendant, act as functional malefic planets in a nativity. For this purpose, under the Systems' Approach the sign Cancer is considered as the mooltrikona sign of the Moon.

For various ascending signs, the functional malefic planets are mentioned hereunder:

1. Aries : Mercury, Rahu and Ketu.

2. Taurus : Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Rahu and Ketu.

3. Gemini : Rahu and Ketu.

4. Cancer : Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.

5. Leo : The Moon, Rahu and Ketu.

6. Virgo : Saturn, Mars, the Sun, Rahu and Ketu.

7. Libra : Mercury, Rahu and Ketu.

8. Scorpio : Mars, Venus, Rahu and Ketu.

9. Sagittarius : The Moon, Rahu and Ketu.

10. Capricorn : The Sun, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu.

11. Aquarius : The Moon, Mercury, Rahu and Ketu.

12. Pisces : The Sun, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.

The functional nature of any planet depends on the nature of the mooltrikona house of that planet. It is not related to the strength of the planet. A planet may be weak or strong but the functional nature will remain same as per the defined principle for identifying the functional nature of planets.

In exceptional cases, when Rahu is well placed in a mooltrikona sign of a planet, without causing any conjunction or close aspect with other houses and planets and its dispositor is strong, Rahu gives good results during its sub-periods for materialistic prosperity. Rahu-Ketu, when exalted, give materialist benefits while debilitated Rahu involves the native in exposed scandals and acute physical sufferings.

It is very necessary to understand the difference between afflicting planets and afflicted planets.

All planets can become afflicted, but only the functional malefic planets can be afflicting planets.

A transit functional malefic planet will afflict always its natal position by conjunction or aspect, except when placed in its own mooltrikona house in rasi/birth chart. A natal/transit functional malefic planet never afflicts its own mooltrikona house, except when the functional malefic planet is already afflicted and/or afflicts from a dusthana/malefic house.

In the case of influence of functional malefic planets over MEPs/planets simultaneously strong in rasi and transit, the orb is one degree on either side for normal afflictions and two degrees on either side for special/multiple afflictions, while in the case of MEPs/planets either weak in rasi or in transit, the orb is five degrees on either side.

In the case of influence of strong functional benefic planets over MEPs/planets simultaneously strong in rasi and transit, the orb is five degrees on either side, while in the case of MEPs/planets either weak in rasi or in transit, the orb is one degree on either side. Under the influence of natal/transit functional malefic planets, all planets get malefically influenced. The maximum influence of the transit or natal conjunction/aspect is when it is within one degree on either side. As soon as the transit influence starts separating, the influence starts tapering down. It is very important to see the strength of the planet on which the transit influence is being studied. For example, if the Sun, being the lord of the fourth house and being a functional benefic planet, is placed in the fourth house and its longitude is eleven degrees and is strong, the functional malefic influence of Jupiter, the most malefic planet for the Taurus ascendant, will be effective when Jupiter is between 9 degrees and 13 degrees in the signs Leo, Sagittarius, Aquarius or Aries, while the single functional malefic influence of Mars will be effective when Mars is between 10 degrees and 12 degrees in the signs Leo, Capricorn, Aquarius or Taurus, because the Sun is strong in the natal chart. Please do not forget to consider the transit strength of this Sun. If the Sun in a Taurus nativity is placed in the sign Libra at a longitude of five degrees then the transit influence of Jupiter over it would be effective whenever Jupiter transits from zero degrees to 10 degrees in Libra, Aquarius, Aries or Gemini, and the transit influence of Mars over it would be effective whenever Mars transits from zero degrees to 10 degrees in Libra, Pisces, Aries or Cancer. However, once the longitude of the transit Jupiter or the transit Mars is 5 degrees, the transit influence would start separating and tapering down but it will clear the affliction only when their longitude is over ten degrees, assuming they are in direct movement. The orb of affliction for a non-mooltrikona house is five degrees on either side of the most effective point. We hope the readers are able to understand this dimension for better analysis.

A weak natal planet is not capable of fully protecting/promoting its general significations and the significations of its mooltrikona house during the course of its sub-periods and during the triple transit functional malefic influences. By descending order of weakness, any planet becomes weak when:

1) The most effective point of its mooltrikona sign is afflicted by a functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.

2) The most effective point of its house of placement is afflicted by a functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.

3) It is conjunct or aspected by any functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.

4) It is combust due to its nearness to the Sun.

5) It occupies malefic houses from the ascendant, except if in its own mooltrikona sign.

6) It occupies its sign of debilitation.

7) It is in the state of infancy or old-age.

8) It occupies its debilitated sign in navamsa.

9) It occupies the mooltrikona sign of a weak planet.

10) It is the Moon within 72 degrees either side of the Sun. However, this is a minor weakness.

NOTE: In serial nos. (1) to (3) above, when the affliction is special or multiple i.e. when it comes from:

1) a conjunction with/ aspect from the most malefic planet,

2) an aspect from a functional malefic planet placed in a dusthana,

3) a conjunction with Rahu or Ketu (Rahu-Ketu axis)

4) an aspect of a functional malefic planet afflicted by other(s) functional malefic planet,

5) more than one functional malefic planet at the same time,

Then the otherwise "strong" planet should be considered afflicted (and weak) even when the orb of affliction is of two degrees.

Marriage & Relationship fructify in the sub-periods of planets signifying marriage/relationship. Therefore, it is very important that we understand the method of analyzing the dasa (main period) and bhukti (sub-period) results. The results of the general significations of the sub-period lord depend upon its strength, placement, conjunction and aspects to the same. The significations of the house of placement are touched when transit planets create benefic or malefic influences on the sub-period lord, depending upon their functional nature whether benefic or malefic. In the sub-period of a planet, the following significations are touched:

(1) The general significations of the planet. For example the Sun rules father, social status, position with the government, male child, digestive system, heart, blood pressure, etc.

(2) The significations of the house where the mooltrikona sign of the said planet is placed. In case in the mooltrikona house some functional malefic planet is placed close to the most effective point, or some functional malefic planet is closely aspecting the most effective point of the said house, or some planet is closely afflicted then during the sub-periods of the afflicting and afflicted planet(s) the significations of the mooltrikona house shall not prosper and shall face problems indicated by the afflicting planet depending upon its lordship. A natal/transit functional malefic planet never afflicts its own mooltrikona house, except when the functional malefic planet is already afflicted and/or afflicts from a dusthana/malefic house.

(3) The significations of the houses where the planet is placed.

(4) During the sub-period of a planet all the impacts on the house, which contains the mooltrikona sign of the said planet, also come into force. Due to such influences on the most effective point by a strong functional benefic planet even the sub-period of a weak planet would be blessing the native with good or very good results. Similarly, a close impact of a functional malefic planet on the most effective point of a mooltrikona house may not allow the planet ruling that mooltrikona house to show good results in its sub-periods even if the said planet is strong in the natal chart.

(1)    The lord of the seventh house.  In case there is no mooltrikona sign in    the seventh house, then the lord of the houses signifying marriage ( the second, fourth, eighth or twelfth house containing mooltrikona sign) are considered.

For various ascendants the following planets are prime determinant of marriage:-

The Sun

The Sun

The Moon

The Moon

The Sun

(2)    Venus and Jupiter are significators of marriage for males and females, respectively.

(3) The planets closely influencing the most effective point of the house(s) signifying marriage or their lords act as secondary determinants of marriage.

Marriage can take place in the sub-periods of the strong planets placed in the houses signifying marriage.  These planets become additional secondary significators of marriage.

If the prime determinant and the significator of marriage are strong and there is no affliction to the most effective points of the houses signifying marriage, the marriage takes place at the appropriate time.  The good strength of Venus hastens the process. The delay is caused by:

(1)    The close influence of the functional malefic planets or the most malefic planet on the prime determinant and secondary significators for marriage;

(2)    Prime determinant of marriage being weak or badly placed and/or afflicted by the most malefic or a functional malefic planet.

(3)    When the prime determinants and secondary determinant(s) are weak and/or are afflicted.

(4)    When the lords of the eighth and/or twelfth houses containing a mooltrikona sign are weak, badly placed and are afflicted.
The influence of the functional malefic planets delays while the influence of the most malefic planet (MMP) delays inordinately and/or denies.  The malefic influence of the MMP cannot be mellowed without persistent performance of the appropriate astral remedies.  If there is a mooltrikona sign in the eighth house from the ascendant, its lord is called MMP.  In case there is no mooltrikona sign in the eighth house, then the role of the MMP is played by the lord of the twelfth house containing the mooltrikona sign. In case there is no mooltrikona sign in the twelfth house, as well, then the role of the MMP is played by Ketu.
